We are in Piraeus, in the global shipping cradle; ideal maritime spot to praise the people serving Greek and Global shipping, to empower the human factor and be a key pillar, the driving force of every sector in the Greek Shipping Industry. To restructure and re-launch the Hellenic Maritime Cluster in order to evolve into a DYNAMIC-holistic system that will be managed by highly competent people with advanced skills. However times are changing and the key to success is no longer to comply with the requirements. It requires a commitment to CHANGE, our commitment to Excellence.”
The innovative synergy project was introduced by Mrs. Chrysoula Vasiliki Patrikiou, CEO/Founder of potentia with an exceptional performance defining the regulatory requirements, the specific needs and high demands; a global call from Shipping community. QMS-potentia response to this call is a brief statement of four main points:
- Personnel behaviour and attitude are key elements of a positive culture that promote a safe, secure and resilient work environment
- People serving Shipping, on ship and ashore, equipped with required knowledge, developed soft skills and ethical commitment are capable to perform at the highest levels essential for efficient and effective operations
- Excellence is achieved by exceeding compliance and embracing commitment. The only way to fulfill this goal is to train our people to the highest standards, not to the minimum qualifications
- Have systems and practices in place that are geared towards defining, assessing, maintaining and developing the right people to the right positions with appropriate behavioural competencies to contribute to a safe, well structured and resilient culture

Based on three fundamental questions, what -how-why, that shape modern management of people and generate the holistic approach in Shipping, potentia team along with QMS team make the step beyond; after focusing on what people do and analyzing how and why they do it, finally apply a research-supported intervention holistic training program which basically has the potential to improve what people do.
Mrs. Patrikiou introduced the what -how-why QMS -potentia project setting S.M.A.R.T- specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time managed- goals in order to deal with the upcoming challenges in Global Shipping. In her presentation she analyzed the QMS -potentia project breakdown referring to the following: “We will apply 3 systems, Assessment- Empowerment- Wellness, by delivering 13 Workshops and 2 psychometric tools in order to raise awareness and provide education on soft skills development, human behavior scientific assessment and wellness. In order to inspire and motivate people to lead and excel we want to be the paradigm of change and derive our power from our own competence, effectiveness, excellence, innovation and ethics based on a human2human approach. The two main goals of our project is to transform the maritime cluster to an integrated and dynamic system managed by competent people and to lead Greek Shipping to the highest performance of excellence. Why? Because we truly believe that no other investment yields as great a return as the investments in human capital; inspired and motivated people are the foundation of every community and the future of every economy”
Capt. Dimitrios Mattheou speaker of honor saluted the audience by highlighting the need for a holistic change and shared his personal success story: “It is of particular value to me as a conscious and responsible person to mention that the companies and organizations I have the honor to represent are also a long-term commitment to my social responsibility as it reflects my own ideals, values, my vision and my personal mission to contribute to People, to Shipping, to Society. I am therefore an advocate and supporter of actions that express a vibrant, dynamic and sincere offer such as this new QMS-potentia synergy. I applaud the decision of this QMS-potentia synergy; a groundbreaking decision by two powerful women to work together in order to change the attitude of the people serving the maritime cluster by inspiring excellence. I am very pleased that the time has come to speak with deeds in Shipping that we will not be talking about things that need to be done, but what is already happening. We must all be involved in the process of a big change for the sake of human excellence. Involvement leads to commitment. Abstention is disorienting and alienating As Dimitris Mattheou, I express my faith and pledge my full support to this groundbreaking holistic QMS-potentia project.” Capt. Dimitrios Mattheou also referred to a successful case study of a shipping company that has been applying and adopted the holistic and systemic management of people, Arcadia Shipmanagement, in which he has the honor of leading for the last 19 years. “Arcadia as well as Aegean Bulk applies holistic management on our human capital. Over the last two years, however, by applying potentia holistic systems, management has been achieved in a more systematic, scientific way and with excellent results in our people’s daily working lives.”
Mr George Xiradakis, as an honorable guest, completed the part of the speeches with very important comments while stating his overall support of the project: “We are constantly talking about leadership and praising the leader’s profile. But do we realize the responsibility of the leader and who really takes the responsibility to lead? Chrysoula, Kalliope my warmest compliments and best wishes for your initiative. You have a great group of people full of passion and with an ethical purpose. You have definitely earned our respect, you deserve our attention and above all you inspire confidence. I take the support of the shipping industry for granted.
